Global Youth Challenge

To celebrate the upcoming G20 Summit in Brisbane in November, Study Brisbane presents the CHRYSALIS Global Youth Challenge, a competition for international students in their final two years of high school.

The CHRYSALIS Global Youth Challenge is a competition that will challenge your English skills and business acumen.

Compete against the world through the Massive Open Online English Course (MOOEC) and join winners from 20 countries to compete in the 3D business simulation: PierSim.

To enter the CHRYSALIS Global Youth Challenge, complete the MOOEC lessons. Answer the questions correctly and complete a short essay to go in the running to win flights and accommodation to Brisbane, Australia in November to compete in the second round.

20 country representatives will be selected for the second round. You will be judged on the speed in which you answer questions correctly and your essay.

Full Terms and Conditions

  1. The Global Youth Challenge is a competition offered by International Education Services Ltd and Brisbane Marketing Pty Ltd (together “the Promoter"). It consists of a competition in two rounds. The first round of the competition will run from 1 April 2014 to 13 June 2014 and relates to the selection of 20 individuals from around the Asia-Pacific region through an online web-based competition based on English language assessment. Prize-winners from the first competition round will gain an opportunity to participate in the second round held in Brisbane, Australia on between 7 and 10 November 2014. This round will be a simulated 3-D world wherein participants will compete with winners from the first round competition. The individual that wins the second round of the Global Youth Challenge will be selected as the Grand Prize winner.

  2. You must get a parent's or legal guardian's permission to enter this competition, including their agreement to the Competition Terms and Conditions (below) before you submit your entry.

  3. You will automatically be entered into the "Global Youth Challenge" competition by entering your personal details in the application form found at or on the Study Brisbane website between 1st April and 13th June 2014 and completing your details in full.

    The Competition is open to students currently studying in their last two years of Senior High School in the following countries/regions: Indonesia, China, Japan, Korea, Russia, Vietnam, India, Myanmar, Brazil, Mexico, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Cambodia, Singapore, Ecuador, Chile, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, Hong Kong and to students from other nations who are able to demonstrate their ability to undertake travel at their own cost, to and from, either the Dubai, or Johannesburg international airports or any of the major international airports in the countries listed above.

  4. Participants must be an individual, with a current passport and must be eligible for a visitor's visa to Australia (“Participant"). Participants must not be residents of Australia, nor have studied in Australia previously as a full-time student and must speak a language other than English in their home.

  5. Each Participant may enter the competition once only.

  6. Each entry must be entered in accordance with these Terms and Conditions. By entering the Competition, each Participant agrees to be bound by these Terms and Conditions. The Promoter may at their discretion refuse to award any prize to any Participant who fails to comply with these Terms and Conditions. Any additional terms and conditions on the Promoter's website or announced on air form part of these Terms and Conditions and where there is any inconsistency between these Terms and Conditions and additional terms and conditions relevant to a particular competition, the additional specified terms and competitions shall prevail.

  7. First Round Prize:

    1. one return economy flight to Brisbane from an airport hub nominated by Brisbane Marketing, flying between 7th November and 10th November 2014;
    2. three night's accommodation with an Australian family or at a Hotel including all meals to be arranged by International Education Services Ltd; and
    3. leisure travel activities to be arranged by Brisbane Marketing; and
    4. the opportunity to participate in the Global Youth Challenge Event, held in Brisbane, Australia between 7th and 10th November 2014, for first competition round winners.

    Grand Prizes: Three Grand Prize winners will be offered a scholarship to the July 2015 Chrysalis program and a 2 day holiday experience in Brisbane.

  8. The maximum total value of the Grand Prize is AUD$2,500. Any additional expenses, including visa costs required for entry into Australia, other than those outlined in these Terms and Conditions, are the responsibility of the winners. The Grant Prize-Winner is subject to the specific Terms and Conditions of the Promoter.

  9. This competition is a game of skill. Chance plays no part in determining the winners. All entries will be judged individually on their merits based on the accuracy and speed of the answers provided in the assessment.

  10. First Round Prize-Winners will be required to participate in a video interview process following the First Round competition to ensure the eligibility of the First Round Prize-Winners. Each First Round Prize Winner must be able to demonstrate that their parent or guardian has consented to them travelling to Australia, they have a valid passport and they are eligible to obtain an Australian Visa (if required). The parent or guardian of the First Round Prize-Winner may be requested to also participate in the video interview process. If a First Round Prize-Winner is unable to satisfy the requirements of the Promoter or these terms and conditions, then the Promoter reserves the right to disqualify the First Round Prize-Winner.

  11. First Round Prize-Winners will be notified by email by June 13th 2014 and their names may be published on the Promoter's websites and social media channels.

  12. The First Round Prize and the Grand Prize are not transferable or exchangeable or redeemable for cash and can only be taken on the dates advised.

  13. The First Round Prize must be accepted by the First Round Prize Winners by replying to the Promoter's email by 20th June or the First Round Prize-Winners will be redrawn.

  14. The Promoter reserves the right to request verification of the Participant's school, residential address and any other relevant entry into or participation in this competition. Verification is at the discretion of the Promoter, whose decision is final. The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any individual who is involved in any way in interfering or tampering with the conduct of this competition.

  15. Participants confirm and promise that all assessment activity is their own and that no efforts will made to cheat or deceive to affect the outcome of the competition.

  16. The First Round Prize-Winner and the Grand Prize Winner, their families and their schools agree to participate in any news media activities surrounding the competition.

  17. The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any variation in the value of the First Round Prize or the Grand Prize (together the “Prize") or any variation in the Prize advertised and the Prize provided. The decision by the Promoter identifying the winners is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Each Participant releases and indemnifies the Promoters against all liability, cost, loss or expense arising out of acceptance of any Prize or participation in the competition including (but not limited to) personal injury and damage to property and whether direct or consequential, foreseeable, due to some negligent act or omission or otherwise.

  18. The Promoter will not be liable for any loss, damage or injury whatsoever which is suffered or sustained as a result of winning the competition.

  19. By claiming a Prize, the winners accept that the Promoter may use the winners' name and likeness for their promotional and publicity purposes.

  20. Persons who enter this competition by completing the online entry form and ticking the box agreeing to the terms and conditions agree to subscribe to the Study Brisbane email newsletter. By subscribing to the Study Brisbane email newsletter they are agreeing to receive email marketing from Study Brisbane and Brisbane Marketing.

  21. Persons who enter this competition by completing the online entry form and ticking the box to become a MOOEC subscriber are subscribing to the MOOEC email newsletter. By subscribing to the MOOEC newsletter they are agreeing to receive email marketing from IES.

  22. The Promoter may, in their sole and absolute discretion, at any time prior to the drawing of the Prize, cancel this competition. The Promoter is not liable for any loss, damage or injury whatsoever which is suffered or sustained by a Participant as a result of entering the competition.

  23. Force Majeure: If for any reason this competition is not capable of running as planned (including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of the Promoter), which corrupts or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this competition, the Promoter reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition. The Promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify all entries from any individual who tampers with, or benefits from tampering with, the entry process which as a result corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the competition.

    In the case of the intervention of any outside agent or event which naturally changes the result or prevents or hinders it's determination, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of God, civil unrest, strikes; the Promoter may in its absolute discretion cancel the competition and recommence it from the start on the same conditions.

  24. The Promoter reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time and to cancel or amend the competition at any time without notice or further recourse to the Participants.
